چکیده

This study is focused on evaluating ground motion durations of Vrancea intermediate-depth earthquakes in Romania, the context future updates to Romanian seismic design code P100-1/2013. The database compiled for this consists about 200 motions recorded during five moderate and large that occurred period 1977–2004 had moment magnitudes MW ≥ 6.0. Two empirical models were derived significant duration considering two time intervals (5–75% 5–95%) accumulation Arias Intensity IA. An analysis data shows mean ratio between D5-95 D5-75 2.8. Moreover, regression also largest share variability due within-event component (site term). Among coefficients, hypocentral distance soil conditions appear have a larger impact compared earthquake magnitude. It was observed median predicted using model proposed much smaller than ones from Eurocode 8 draft same magnitude range. Finally, geographic trends related distribution residuals evaluated three with number available recordings.

Possible Cause-Effect Relationships Between Vrancea (Romania) Earthquakes and Some Global Geophysical Phenomena

The possibility that the Earth’s tides are a triggering factor of Vrancea subcrustal earthquakes is investigated in the first part of this paper. A possible correlation between Vrancea subcrustal earthquakes and geomagnetic jerks is demonstrated in the second part. The last part of the paper presents a number of results concerning a possible relationship between the regularities of strong Vranc...

A Strong Ground Motion Catalogue of Selected Records for Shallow Crustal, Near Field Earthquakes in Iran

Understanding strong ground motions in the near-fault areas is important for seismic risk assessment in densely populated areas. In the past, lack of information on strong ground motion for large and moderate earthquakes led to the use of mainly far field large and moderate earthquake records in equations for calculation of the strong ground motion parameters. In this article, we collected and ...

PROPERTIES OF STRONG GROUND MOTION EARTHQUAKES* By

THE USUAL type of California earthquake is associated with a relative horizontal slipping of the two faces of a fault which lies essentially in a vertical plane. As a consequence of this slipping, the surface of the ground experiences a severe motion in the neighborhood of the fault during large earthquakes. This surface ground motion can be measured, and for the relatively small number of stro...

Dehydration-driven stress transfer triggers intermediate-depth earthquakes

Intermediate-depth earthquakes (30-300 km) have been extensively documented within subducting oceanic slabs, but their mechanics remains enigmatic. Here we decipher the mechanism of these earthquakes by performing deformation experiments on dehydrating serpentinized peridotites (synthetic antigorite-olivine aggregates, minerals representative of subduction zones lithologies) at upper mantle con...

Ground motion directionality in the 2010–2011 Canterbury earthquakes

This paper examines the observed directionality of ground motions in the Christchurch urban area during the 2010–2011 Canterbury, New Zealand earthquakes. A dataset of ground motions recorded at 20 strong motion stations over 10 different earthquake events is utilized to examine the ratios of various response spectral directionality definitions and the orientation of the maximum direction. Beca...
